The Songs of Summer

July 6, 2012

Every summer has its own particular sound, but this season’s seems particularly strong, giving us the kind of beats that we just can’t stop listening—and dancing—to. But to find out exactly what we should be downloading and spinning all summer long, we knew we had to turn to the experts. So we asked some of the top DJs from our in-house lounge and nightclub Aura to share their picks. Here are some favorite summer 2012 tracks (and the reasons why) from DJ Obscene plus three more lists from other DJs coming to Aura over the next few weeks:

1. “Somebody I Used To Know,” Gotye (ft. Kimbra)
Whether on the radio, in the club, or in your favorite bar, this is the song that is impossible to escape this summer. I love the dBerrie mix because it has great energy and an awesome progression that matches the song well.

2. “We Own The Night,” by Tiesto & Wolfgang Gartner (ft. Luciana)
A personal favorite of mine, this record has been pumping through the speakers in most of my sets lately, and the results have been very positive. With smooth vocals and a hard-hitting beat, this one is sure to stay in my rotation for months to come.

3. “Let’s Go,” by Calvin Harris (ft. Ne-Yo)
I absolutely love the vocals and production on this record. Good vibes and energy will make this one a go-to record for me this summer.

4. “Make It Bun Dem,” by Skrillex and Damian “Jr Gong” Marley
I haven’t always been a huge fan of Skrillex but his musical range as of late has forced me to pay attention. This unusual collaboration delivers big, meshing both artists’ styles to create a cool, laid-back vibe.

5. “Mercy,” by Kanye West (ft. Big Sean, Pusha T and 2Chainz)
This monster of a record
gets a huge reaction when it comes on in the Club, and it keeps you wrapped up until the end, when 2Chainz delivers the best verse of the song.
