Playing a Round for a Cause (or Two)
May 21, 2012The Cove Atlantis is no stranger to celebrities. Plenty have stayed here. But don’t ask us who—our lips are sealed. (You’d want us to keep your secrets, too, right?)
And we’re no stranger to golf, either, what with the instant access we give you to the Tom Weiskopf-designed, 18-hole, par-17 championship Ocean Course at our nearby sister resort, the One & Only Ocean Club. It’s the premier golf links on Paradise Island.
Actually, we’re no stranger to celebrities and golf together, having hosted the Michael Jordon Celebrity Invitational for a decade. With big-name participants from the worlds of sports, film and politics (actor Josh Duhamel, baller Johnny Damon and former president Bill Clinton among them), the tournament raised more than $5 million for major nonprofits, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, as well as more than 30 local, Bahamas-based charities.
Now this month, there’s a new star-studded tournie in town: the Michael Douglas & Friends Celebrity Golf Tournament, which comes to the Ocean Course from May 25 to 27 for it’s 11th-annual outing. Douglas himself will host the event, along with Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, and country star Kenny Chesney will play a live concert at Atlantis on Saturday. The weekend will raise funds for PLAN!T NOW, which helps students affected by severe weather disasters, and for the Motion Picture & Television Fund, a leading entertainment community nonprofit.
So come on out and cheer for your favorite celebrity pair playing in the tournament. But do so quietly. It is still golf, after all.
Booked your stay? Yes? Well done. Now give yourself a golf-clap round of applause.
