Hoop Dreams

March 19, 2012

At the Cove, we’re always excited about college basketball. But we’re especially psyched about March Madness this year. That’s because five of the eight teams that’ll be at the hotel for November’s Battle for Atlantis have now qualified for this month’s NCAA championship games. Our guys on the court will be from Memphis, Missouri, Louisville, Duke and VCU, with Stanford, Minnesota and Northern Iowa playing in the National Invitational Tournament.

To find out who we should be paying particular attention to, we turned to the force behind Battle for Atlantis, Lea Miller. She’s going to be looking at Duke point guard Austin Rivers, who recently hit a last second shot against South Carolina, as well as Thomas Robinson from Kansas and Anthony Davis, a Kentucky freshman she describes as “just unstoppable, probably the best player in the country.”

Then there are the coaches: Duke’s legendary Mike “Coach K” Krzyzewski, Louisville’s Rick Pitino (just nominated for the Basketball Hall of Fame), and VCU’s Shaka Smart, only in his mid-thirties and already a star who brought his team to the Final Four last year.

Down at The Cove, we’ll be watching every televised game, on screens all over the property, not least of all Atlantis’ Pegasus Race & Sports Book, where the betting limits will be doubled during the championship. That means $2,200 on regular match-ups and $3,300 on the championship. Let the games begin.
