Flip-Flop Faux Pas

Newsflash: Flip-flopping’s not doing Mitt Romney any favors, and it’s not really working out so well for you either. Havaianas have their place—it’s called Brazil—but when you’re frequenting the kind of invite-invite on pools on the most exclusive rooftops of Miami, LA and New York you’ve got to do better. That’s right: It’s time to upgrade your poolside footwear.

CAIN, the for-mature-audiences-only ultra-pool and dayclub at The Cove, is the kind of place where girls rock steep stilettos with their bikinis. So guys whose soles are slumming it are particularly noticeable. This spring, though, we’ve been seeing more and more men in slick leather loafers and even cool sandals—mandals no more.

The folks who run our in-house shopping mecca, ESCAPE, are predicting even more chic feet this summer. The warmest months this year are going to be all about color—bright color—in loafers and driving mocs, our ESCAPE gurus tell us: sky blues, tangerine-y oranges, geranium-esque reddish-pinks. Maybe it seems like a lot now, but these colors are just right for the season ahead. And that’s good news when it comes to finding the perfect palette to complement those vibrant Olasul trunks.
