Calling All Swingers

It’s almost tee time at Atlantis, and we wanted to give you fair(way) warning that a red hot golf tournament is coming soon so plan ahead. All golf puns aside, Memorial Day weekend will be one for the ages, as the Michael Douglas & Friends Celebrity Golf Tournament will take place at The Ocean Club’s luxurious, world-class range, May 25-27.

Simply put, the action and star power will be top notch, starting with co-host Morgan Freeman. Between him and Douglas, that’s three Oscars alone, and then you add in Michael Douglas’ wife, Catherine Zeta Jones and a few other folks, and the roster of A-list celebrities scheduled to play reads like the invite list for the tres exclusive Vanity Fair Academy Award bash. What’s that? You don’t golf? That’s fine – if you have two ears you’ll still want to book your ticket, as country mega-star Kenny Chesney will play an intimate benefit concert on Saturday night (May 26) to support the tournament and kick off his summer tour. Look at that – an exceptional weekend just got outstanding.

Why such an outpouring of power players, you’re wondering? Aside from the gorgeous setting and lovely links – The Ocean Club Golf Course is designed by Tom Weiskopf and stretches over 7,100 yards of amazing coastline – the Michael Douglas and Friends Celebrity Golf Tournament is a giant fundraiser. Proceeds from the televised tourney will go to PLAN!T NOW (P!N), a disaster preparedness non-profit that grants scholarships to students who have been impacted by severe weather disasters, and also to The Motion Picture Television Fund, the leading Hollywood charity providing health, financial and social services to the entertainment community.

Michael Douglas is a longtime Ocean Club fan and has visited with his family a million times, so you could say he’ll have an advantage out on the links, but we hear some of his star golfer buddies may give him a run for his money. That said, even with all the inside intel we have from our golf pros about who cranks and who shanks, we’re not going to place bets on who will win, but we will say the odds are 100% this will be a Memorial Day weekend to remember. Fore!
