A Celebration of Independence

October 23, 2012

Get ready. We’re having a party. A year-long party. And you’re invited to help us celebrate. Come on. You know you want to.

Commemorating the country’s four decades of independence, we’re kicking off 12 full months of festivities with a blockbuster event the first weekend of November, honoring actor, human rights activist, and diplomat Sir Sidney Poitier – one of The Bahamas’ favorite sons. Raised in The Bahamas, Sir Sidney is known worldwide for his lauded, groundbreaking roles in such famous films as To Sir With Love, Lilies of the Field, The Defiant Ones, In the Heat of the Night and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. Friday-night will feature a blowout beach barbecue, one of the biggest displays of fireworks The Bahamas have ever seen (by the first family of fireworks themselves, Grucci) and a concert by six-time Grammy-winner Bebe Winans and Friends.

Then on Saturday, there will be a star-studded concert by none other than Grammy- and Academy Award-winning singer, actress and all-around star Jennifer Hudson, benefitting the Sir Sidney Center for the Performing Arts.

So how do you get in on the action? Couldn’t be easier. Tickets for the Saturday-night Atlantis LIVE Jennifer Hudson concert are on sale now and the Friday night festivities are open to all. Of course, staying at The Cove during this special weekend would be the most sophisticated way to celebrate in style. Don’t you want to see how great those fireworks will look from your private balcony?
